On May 16, Ivanka Trump, advisor to the president, and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross held a virtual meeting of The American Workforce Policy Advisory Board. SHRM President and CEO Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, was appointed to serve on the board in 2018.
Working groups were expected to submit their recommendations to the president, thereby fulfilling their commitment to serve. However, in light of the high unemployment and job displacement caused by COVID-19, the board will continue its work into 2021. During the call, Taylor pledged to support policies that will strengthen the American workforce and help lead the economic recovery.
In 2020, the board’s efforts will be aimed at helping to connect displaced workers with pathways to upgrade and learn new skills so they can move into “good jobs in rebounding fields as the health crisis abates and the economy begins to recover,” according to a statement from the White House.
