SHRM Advocates Workplace Protections During COVID-19

Last week, SHRM joined more than 200 national, state and local organizations in a letter sent to Congress advocating limited employer-liability protections as the economy and states begin to reopen.

The letter calls for a safe harbor against claims of COVID-19 exposure for businesses, nonprofit organizations and education institutions that work to follow applicable public health guidelines; health care workers and facilities providing critical COVID-19-related care; makers, donors, distributors and users of certain personal protective equipment critical to the COVID-19 response; and public companies targeted by unfair and opportunistic COVID-19-related securities lawsuits. Most importantly, the letter calls for employer protections to be temporary while not providing immunity for truly bad actors—those organizations that fail to follow public health guidelines.

SHRM will continue to advocate bipartisan solutions impacting work, workers and the workplace during this crisis.
